Ray & Tracye Gano

Ray & Tracye Gano

From 2012 to 2015 Me and my wife  Tracye lived in Atenas Costa Rica and we loved it. Atenas is a great little town and very central to much of the goings-on in Costa Rica. We are 45 minutes from the Pacific, 30 minutes to Escazu where Walmart and other major brand stores are located and 45 minutes from the airport.

Atenas is a GREAT town to settle in if you are a first time expat because there is a pretty sizable expat community here and everyone is friendly. Need help, just reach out to an expat and they will help point you in the right direction.

The main reason that we do not live here any longer is that we kept running into problems getting are resident visa. We tried for several years, but laws and such kept changing for “Rentistas” that in our case, it became pretty much impossible. We love Atenas and have many great friends there.

Here is a great film about Costa Rica from the 1940’s

What is interesting about this film is that much of what is spoken about, still holds true today for Costa Rica. There are more people, taller building and more modern commerce, but over all, the heart and soul of Costa Rica remains the same.

If you are looking for a place to retire, this is a good place to start if you wish to retire in Costa Rica.

Contact us if you have any questions and we will be more than happy to get you plugged into our network of friends, movers, attorneys, and other folks that will make your transition smoother.
